House Relocation Questions Answered
House Relocation is the procedure of moving a house by way of prior preparation and then transporting it from its existing location to another.
This procedure is relevant for two categories.
( 1 ) The relocation / removal of an existing home that was not originally designed on
purpose or constructed to be transportable.
( 2 ) Transportable homes.
( 1 ) The process of relocating a house is carried out by specialised tradesman and
companies, Trucks designed for this purpose, along with specialised lifting equipment
are used for this role.
In Victoria at least, the houses are cut into sections that are mostly under 5.9 meters in
width, 20 meters long and 4.9 meters in height loaded on the truck, to achieve these
sizes houses are cut in to sections and in most cases the roof is dismantled for the
journey.
For a variety of reasons a large number of these houses are not suitable for relocation.
( 2 ) the process of transporting a transportable house or granny flat begins at the design
stage , widths are mostly between 4.5 and 5 meters, with lengths kept down to no more
than 17 meters and heights under 4.5, there are exceptions to this. Differing building
regulations apply to these buildings.
